The UK based University of Sheffield introduces fully-funded engineering scholarships for women
To boost the numbers of women students in advanced engineering education, the Faculty of Engineering at the UK-based University of Sheffield has introduced its ‘Chung-Liversidge 2014 Scholarships’. This is a Postgraduate Taught Scholarship Scheme for female rising stars of engineering. The scholarships, which will fully fund the tuition fees for a one year Masters programme, are aimed at female postgraduate taught students commencing their studies in September 2014.
The Chung-Liversidge Scholarships 2014 will be awarded to the eligible female candidates on the basis of their academic merit and personal statement, so long as they are otherwise self-funded and they are classed as ‘overseas’ for tuition fee purposes. The scholarships will be provided for a number of courses in the departments of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering, Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The University will contact offer holders directly with details on how to apply for the same if they find her eligible for the Chung-Liversidge Scholarship.
The Chung-Liversidge Scholarship has been named after Sir Sze-Yuen Chung, an alumnus of the University of Sheffield from 1948 – 1951 and Pam Liversidge, a Chartered Mechanical Engineer who was the first woman President of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1997-98. The scholarship is funded from the generous donation of Sir Sze-Yuen Chung who, after studying at the university, went on to become a distinguished businessman, politician and educator in Hong Kong. His links with the University and continued support of the Faculty of Engineering have allowed the Chung-Liversidge Scholarships to provide financial support for academically strong female international students.
The scholarships, which will take the form of a tuition fee reduction, can be awarded to the candidates in addition to other University of Sheffield International Scholarships, as long as their funding does not exceed their payable tuition fees. The deadline for the applications is 27th June 2014 whereas; the results for the same will be announced via email on 25th July 2014.
